Qatar to host inaugural GCC T20 cricket from Sep 15

11. Sep. 2023

DOHA: Qatar will host the Gulf Cricket T20I Championship 2023 at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium from September 15-23.

Besides hosts Qatar, the inaugural edition will feature Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

The competition will be played in T20 format, according to a press release from the Qatar Cricket Association.

Given the fact that cricket is widely played in the GCC by the expats from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, the organisers came to this conclusion to host the event as a part of promoting the sport.

Qatar, UAE and Oman do take part in the ICC and Asian events while the sport has been a gradual rise in popularity in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain in recent years.

Fans can look forward to witnessing some intense battles on the field as these nations vie for the coveted championship title.

From the players’ point of view, the competition will offer them an excellent platform to showcase their talents.

Qatar Cricket Association CEO Khaled Al Suwaidi said during a recently held press conference that all arrangements have been done to host the tournament.
